About Us

Founded in January of 2010, Three Rivers Okiya is hosted in University City near where the original "Japanese Tea Gardens" were erected over 100 years ago, for the 1904 World's Fair Exhibition.

Named after the Missouri, the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers that come together at St. Louis, Three Rivers Okiya is symbolic of the three talents of the Okiya's three leaders, coming together in harmony in the pursuit of art.

Umeka-san is a second-year maiko learning traditional Gion Kobu dance, hair-dressing, silk painting and kimono making.  She is also taking lessons in tea ceremony.  Her sweet nature and childlike beauty make her a favorite.  She specializes in the fine art of conversation and companionship, and is looking forward to taking a more active role in the management of the okiya.  An accomplished entertainer, she loves working with children and giving teaching demonstrations of the traditional arts.

Hasume-san is a maiko who will be turning her collar next winter.  She is learning the art of dressing in kimono, traditional Gion Kobu dance, the traditional hand drum, as well as tea ceremony.  She has been interested in Japanese  culture and art since visiting Japan as a young child, and loves kimono and dressing in the traditional style.  She hopes you will treat her kindly in the future.  Ganbattene!

Suzuhana-san is in her final year of being a maiko and hopes to turn her collar this winter.  She will be our first in the Geiko, or Geisha rank.  She has always loved Japanese art and dance as well as kimono. She is an accomplished dancer and hopes to start learning to play the shamisen soon.  In entertaining she strives to promote a relaxing and fun atmosphere to let the authentic nature of what a true Geisha does be realized and appreciated.

Feel free to check in on our progress as time passes.
Arigatou goziamasu!

Temple bells die out.
The fragrant blossoms remain.
A perfect evening!
